Hall of Monuments: Valor

[Confused? Start here.]

The Valor monument tracks certain sets of weapons: Tormented (available in Nightfall), Destroyer (craftable in EotN), and Oppressor (available by playing through the War in Kryta content). There are a total of 8 HoM points available: one for any single weapon, one each for a Tormented, Destroyer, or Oppressor weapon, one for installing a total of five different weapons, two points for getting to 11 total, and one more for getting to 15 total. Your goal here is 3-5 points.

Two things of note: first, putting a weapon in this monument allows you to keep it, but it also automatically customizes the weapon to you (the monument will warn you of this). Second, you must install different weapons each time. This means that if you've already put in an Oppressor bow, you cannot put another Oppressor bow in, even on a different character, for more points. (Note for rangers: all bows count as just "bow" for the purpose of the monument.) If you want to fill this monument fully without wasting weapons, you will need to either use alts, or give some of the weapons to your heroes, who can use items customized to you (this can be a good way to equip a hero with a perfect max weapon).

Destroyer weapons may be the easiest of the three to get, as they only require money, though you may want to try to get the materials yourself. They're crafted on the first (non-combat) level of the Slaver's Exile dungeon, and require 100 iron, 250 granite, 10 onyx, 10 diamonds, and 5 platinum to create. Iron is the most readily available and you likely already have some; it's primarily gotten from salvaging metal weapons. Granite can be salvaged from certain weapons and trophies, and is also dropped by certain types of enemies.

Onyx is a bit harder to come by; it only drops in dungeons chests or hidden treasures and (occasionally) the end chest of the Fissure of Woe, and the only things it can be expert salvaged from are the also-rare Onyx Staff and Onyx Scepter. Diamonds are more easily found than onyx; they can also drop from dungeons in both chests and hidden treasures, Nightfall treasures, the Chest of Woe and the Underworld Chest, can occasionally be a reward from a Coffer of Whispers, can be gotten with Trade Contracts in Vabbi (but you're probably better off saving those for rubies and sapphires), or expert salvaging a handful of items.

You can, of course, buy either gem from the rare material trader or players. They aren't as pricey as rubies or sapphires, and you only need 10 of each, so coming up with the money for them shouldn't be too hard.

Oppressor weapons can be gotten if you complete the War in Kryta content. Along the way, you will be given Medals of Honor as quest rewards, as well as being able to turn in War Supplies for more. You can also sometimes get them from in Royal Gifts (available as both quest rewards and for War Supplies), which you may recall also give you a shot at some rare minis. You need 10 Medals of Honor for each Oppressor weapon, which you can turn in after you complete the Battle for Lion's Arch quest. You may get this many simply by doing the quests and opening the gifts, but taking bounties (which award War Supplies) can help you get more if you need them.

This is the cheapest option, provided you find it possible to complete the War in Kryta content. You can continue to take bounties even after officially finishing the quest line, so it's possible to accumulate a number of these weapons in that way, by trading the War Supplies you get for those bounties for Medals of Honor. (You can, of course, also run the content again with alts, but you must have completed either Prophecies or EotN with that character to do so.)

To get Tormented Weapons, you have to brave the Domain of Anguish and collect a total of 15 of each type of of the four Anguish Gemstones, which each drop from different types of mobs in the DoA. Since the DoA is a fairly difficult area to master, this could prove to be pretty hard. Assuming you can get the gems, you can trade them in (to a Spirit of Truth after killing any given area's boss) for an Armbrace of Truth, which in turn can be turned in at the Gate of Anguish for your tormented weapon. Which sounds like a lot of work because, well, it is.

If you like to gamble, you could also collect fewer gemstones (one of each type) and turn them in at the Gate of Anguish for a Coffer of Whispers, which has a very small chance of giving you an Armbrace. The CoW can also give you gems (Anguish, rubies, sapphires, or diamonds), a miniature Mallyx, or a Primeval armor remnant along with a few other things, so you may want to get a few of these anyhow, but don't count on it giving you a shortcut to the Armbrace.

Anguish gemstones are also sold by players if you need a few of a specific type to get your Armbrace. Of course, you can also buy any of the three types of weapons (or an Armbrace), but the price is rather high, (particularly for an Armbrace or a Tormented weapon which can easily run you 150-250k).

However, to get your goal 3-5 points, you have a few options. Putting any weapon in at all gives you two points (one for "any" and one for that specific type). One additional weapon of a different type would bring you to three. Five weapons of a single type would also do so. Two Destroyer and three Oppressor weapons would get you four points ("any", destroyer, oppressor, and "five total"). You can even get as many as 5 points by using nothing but one category of weapon, as there are exactly 11 different weapons (counting shields and focuses) available in each category (giving you "any", [type], "five total" and "11 total", which is worth 2 points). So if you find one or another weapon type easier to get, you can actually get your goal points entirely through those weapons.
